Hello, students!

How quickly we find ourselves at the midpoint of the semester! I want to thank you all for the hard work you are doing inside and outside the classroom, not only to reach your academic goals but keep each other safe. We could not have made it this far without your cooperation and commitment to the Nanook Pledge and community safety!

Halloween weekend is upon us, and it is tempting to revert to our previous traditions of getting together and celebrating. However, it is crucial that we continue to follow UAF’s safety precautions.

As students, you are held accountable for the decisions you make both on and off campus. Attending a party or gathering where physical distancing and mask wearing are not followed, as well as consuming excessive amounts of alcohol, jeopardizes the safety of those in attendance and those you interact with later.

The decision of a few can affect the entire campus. Be a positive voice. Remind each other that keeping our residence halls open and being able to offer some in-person classes depend on every one of us making safety a top priority everywhere we go.

Students who choose not to stay 6 feet away from others and who don’t wear masks, on and off campus, will be held accountable through the student conduct process. Sanctions range from restorative interventions and probation to loss of housing, suspension or expulsion. If you have a question about what is expected of you, please reach out to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities. They are happy to help you.

You can still celebrate Halloween weekend while adhering to safety practices such as staying 6 feet apart, wearing a mask, and washing your hands. The team at the Center for Student Engagement has put together a list of activities to help you socialize safely.

Thank you all for your commitment to safety and for helping to keep us on campus. We are NANOOK NATION!
