Dear UAF student,

The State of Alaska has issued a revision to Health Mandate 010: Interstate and International Travel, which will impact students arriving in Alaska from another state or country. The revised mandate goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020.

Testing
The new mandate requires travelers to Alaska to have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival, or to obtain a test at the airport. As a UAF student, you qualify as an Alaska resident for testing purposes, and can take a test at the airport for free. (Nonresidents must pay $250.)

Please be prepared to provide proof of student status when you arrive at the airport. Click here for a personalized verification letter (under "Travel and arriving at UAF"). The letter will attest that you are a current student and therefore have Alaska resident status.

Strict social distancing
Students traveling into the state must remain in their campus housing or other permanent residence until they receive the results of a second negative COVID-19 test, which must be taken 7-14 days after they arrive in Alaska. You can make an appointment for a second, follow-up COVID-19 test by contacting the Student Health and Counseling Center. During this time, you may not access university spaces such as classrooms, dining facilities or the gym, or participate in any social gathering. You will need to work with your instructors to make sure you can do your course work remotely while you wait for the test results.

If you are living on campus, please report immediately to Residence Life when you arrive. RL staff will give you information on how to order meals and access important campus services while you are awaiting your test results.

Please reach out to Residence Life or Student Health and Counseling if you have questions. We are working hard to make this transition as smooth as possible!

Thank you,
Keith Champagne, vice chancellor for student affairs
