UAF, Latitude 65 to launch Nanook 65 Golden Ale

The University of Alaska Fairbanks has teamed up with Fairbanks' Latitude 65 Brewing Company on a new beer that will boost scholarships for Alaska Nanooks student-athletes.


Survey open through Sept. 15 for professional development needs

UAF's Faculty Development community is conducting a survey of all faculty, graduate students, post-docs and others who wish to provide feedback to determine what programs are needed. A better understanding of needs will allow the UAF Faculty Development community to create opportunities that are targeted and responsive. Please complete the survey by the end of day Sept. 15 to ensure your feedback is included.


NASA launch

NASA Pathways Internships deadline is this Friday, Sept. 16

Know a student interested in working at NASA? They should consider a NASA Pathways Internship. NASA Pathways interns have a high chance of a career at NASA after graduation. The current application period is open through Sept. 16.


Graduate School Fall Seminar series

The upcoming UAF Graduate School  fall 2022 seminars are:

  • Sept. 20 (Library Services)

  • Sept. 22 (Career Services)

You're invited to audition for "Tumyaraq-qaa" an Alaska Native Indigenous-in-space comedic adventure. This 30-minute pilot script was written by Kavelina Torres, Indigenous media assistant professor, with the Theatre & Film Department at the University of Alaska FairbanksThis pilot TV project will be recorded in segments beginning in October 2022.


Implicit Bias Workshop

The Implicit Bias Training Workshop will provide an introduction to different forms of implicit bias and its impacts. Trainers will introduce tools and methods participants can use to interrupt and mitigate bias in the moment and in the long term. This workshop, scheduled for Sept. 27 from 1-3:30 p.m. via Zoom, is hosted by the UAF Department of Equity and Compliance and presented by Margo Griffith, Ronnie Houchin and Casey McMillan. NextGen Graduate Student Forms Training

The UAF Graduate School is hosting training sessions in to go over how to fill out UAF graduate forms. The sessions will be held on:

Sept. 19, 2022: 3-4 p.m.
Sept. 27, 2022: 10-11 a.m.

All sessions will be available via Zoom. You must register in advance (click on the date you would like to attend).


3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Workshop Series

A series of workshops is available both in-person and online for students to develop and practice their presentation and story-telling skills for this year's competition.

  • Sept. 15: Brainstorming your research story

  • Sept. 20: Presenting your research as a compelling story

  • Sept. 29: Visualizing your research story

  • Oct. 6: It’s all about delivery via zoom

  • Oct. 13: Mock trials and feedback

One-on-one with the Speaking Center coaches (schedule anytime)

Convocation, Sept. 29

Please join me Thursday, Sept. 29 at 1:15 p.m. in the Davis Concert Hall for 2022 Convocation. The annual event welcomes faculty, staff and students back to UAF for a new academic year each fall, and is a celebration of the university's people and accomplishments over the past year. T-shirts and ice cream will also be available at the event.

Federal Student Aid and the Biden-Harris Administration have announced a three-part plan to help federal student loan borrowers get back on track with payments after pandemic-related support expires.

Plants for sale at the Geophysical Institute

Mather Library in the Akasofu Building is hosting a houseplant sale. Proceeds help maintain the lush plants in the long hallway between Elvey and Akasofu buildings. The plants are cared for by a committee of volunteers from the two buildings, and the funds pay for supplies like potting soil, fertilizer and pots. Pick up a new plant for your office, home or dorm room! Cash sales only.
