BLaST celebrates March Scientist of the Month

Since 2016, the Biomedical Learning and Student Training program at UAF has highlighted scientists from all biomedical fields through its Scientist of the Month articles. BLaST Scholar and UAF biological sciences undergraduate student Shadrach Stitz was selected as the March 2023 BLaST Scientist of the Month.


Chancellor White to host online forum on Student Success on April 6

Chancellor Dan White will host an online forum April 6 at 1 p.m. on Student Success featuring new academic programs, updates from the Graduate School, expansion of the North Star College, and exciting services offered through the Student Success Center. Reserve a seat in this Zoom session on Thursday, March 23 from 2-3:30 p.m., where we will discuss the benefits, complexities, and considerations that OER creators must take when creating Indigenous OERs that support curriculum development. Kayla Lar-Son holds a Bachelor of Native Studies and a Masters of Library and Information Studies from the University of Alberta. Her professional areas of focus include Indigenous librarianship, Indigenous data sovereignty, and embedded librarianship with Indigenous communities.


Climate survey on diversity and equity open through March 28

UAF has partnered with the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium to administer a diversity and equity campus climate survey to the entire UAF community. This survey asks students, faculty, staff and administrators about their perceptions and experiences related to diversity, inclusion, discrimination, and harassment at UAF. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and responses are anonymous. A survey invitation email was sent on Feb. 14 and a reminder was sent Feb. 28. Each participant was sent an individualized link that cannot be shared with others. Search your email for uaf@hedsconsortium.org to find your link. The survey will close Tuesday, March 28 at 11:59 p.m.

Grant boosts internet, IT careers at UAF rural campuses

A $2.9 million federal grant will expand broadband internet access at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' rural campuses and support information technology careers for low-income Alaska Native and minority students. Learn more.


Understanding Credit

This Zoom workshop on Tuesday, March 21 from 3-4 p.m. is for learning about credit. Students can learn what credit is, how to improve their credit score, and how credit can be used to reach financial goals. UAF Financial Aid is presenting the workshop with Sallie Mae.


Learn to preserve foods in Palmer class series

Learn to preserve foods using a variety of methods in a four-class series in Palmer this April. Details are available online or contact Julie Cascio with the UAF Cooperative Extension Service teaching the course. Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made five business days in advance.

Apply for the Dalton Highway Artist-in-Residence

Toolik Field Station invites visual, auditory, or performing artists and writers to apply for the 2023 Dalton Highway Artist-in-Residence program. Applications are due March 24, 2023. More information, including how to apply, is available on the program’s website.

Movie Night at the Rasmuson Library

The Alaska and Polar Regions Collections and Archives invites you to Movie Night on Thursday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Rasmuson Library - 2nd floor outside of the Archives. The Library will show Lew Landers' "Arctic Flight." Popcorn will be provided; please bring your own non-alcoholic drink. This event is open to all and no registration required.
