New URSA funding opportunities for 2023-24 opening July 31

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity is pleased to announce three new funding opportunities for the 2023-24 school year. Each opportunity will open for applications on July 31, 2023, and close on Sept. 10, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.

Elizabeth Parry is pursuing her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. She is developing a new tool to measure food security using a OneHealth lens with a particular focus on Alaska Native populations. She has an interdisciplinary educational background, with a B.S. in Zoology and an M.S. in Environment and Development. Although she wasn't familiar with OneHealth before choosing these degrees, they perfectly support her work at the intersection of humans, animals, and their shared environment.


Ice Cream Thursdays have returned!

Ice Cream Thursdays have returned for the summer! Swing by the Wood Center weekly on Thursdays from noon to 2 p.m. through Aug. 10 to buy $1 scoops of ice cream. Flavors of ice cream available vary by week.


Chignik Bay, Alaska

UAF group receives philanthropic grant to aid Chignik region communities

A coastal organization led by the University of Alaska Fairbanks has received a $590,000 grant from a private foundation to map rapidly changing watersheds of the Chignik region on the Alaska Peninsula.


Kuskokwim Consortium Library receives national medal

Healthy Living lecture series begins June 6

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the Healthy Living lecture series starting on June 6. The free series offers a variety of presentations by Alaska medical specialists and experts.


Food protection manager classes set for August, October

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will offer a certified food protection manager training on Tuesday, Aug. 1, and again on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with proctors for testing available in 14 communities.
