A donated underground loader from Northern Star Resources - Pogo Mine will let University
of Alaska Fairbanks students train on the same modern equipment they are likely to
encounter in future jobs.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks has announced the students named to the deans' and chancellor's lists for the spring 2023 semester. The lists recognize students’ outstanding academic
achievements.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the Healthy Living lecture series starting
on June 6. The free, public series offers a variety of presentations by Alaska medical
specialists and experts. Lectures are at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth
floor of the Usibelli Building on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus. Parking on campus

The Office of Admissions is launching a new transfer credit tool that will allow users
to see how courses taken at other universities transfer to UAF. The estimator will allow students can pick their intended major and the institution
they'll be transferring credits from, and the estimator will give them an unofficial
degree completion report so they can see how credits will transfer. Students will
also be able to see how close they are to completing a UAF degree.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks will launch the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview
series on June 12. The eight-week series is presented by UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong
Learning and honors unsung heroes in the Fairbanks community.

In a recent paper, scientists wrote that a small population of polar bears living
off Greenland and Arctic Canada increased by 1.6 times when they compared the numbers
from the 1990s to 2013 and 2014. They concluded that lighter sea ice might have benefited
the animals.
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity is pleased to announce
three new funding opportunities for the 2023-24 school year. Each opportunity will open for applications on July 31, 2023, and close on Sept. 10,
2023, at 11:59 p.m. Funds for each award must be spent by June 15, 2024.
As soils in Arctic Alaska become warmer and freeze for shorter periods in winter,
mating conditions for arctic ground squirrels are changing.
