Spring 2024 Career Fair Week

This semester, Career Services will be hosting two in-person career fairs in the Wood Center Ballroom and Mall Area: The Engineering Career Fair will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Job and Internship Fair will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students are encouraged to connect with companies and organizations seeking candidates from all majors and discover full-time, part-time, seasonal, and internship positions. The VCR's Office, with support from Athletics, is excited to announce our third annual Research at the Rink! Join us in celebrating UAF Research on Friday, Feb. 16 as our Nanooks hockey team takes on the LIU Sharks! The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. We will have two free tickets available for all staff, faculty, and students in research in any capacity. Learn more on getting event tickets.


WMA Wilderness First Aid course

This Wilderness First Aid course is a great 20-hour look at the standards and skills of dealing with: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies and Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. There is both hands-on practice and classroom learning. Learn more about the course and registration.

Inspiring Girls* Expeditions recruiting instructors for 2024

Calling graduate students and early career scientists, artists, and outdoor guides! Inspiring Girls* Expeditions Alaska seeks instructors for our 2024 expeditions! We empower youth to succeed through science, art, and outdoor exploration. Our expeditions are tuition-free, 12-day programs that emphasize curiosity, creativity, and exploration in inspiring landscapes. Learn more about the opportunity.


UAF Troth Yeddha' Campus steam outage planned

Annually, the Facilities Services Division of Utilities performs preventative maintenance and repair work on the power plant and the utilidor system. Starting on May 5, steam from the power plant will be shut off to the entirety of the Troth Yeddha' Campus for two weeks. Steam will return to service around May 19. Stewardship of our utility investments is critical to maintain a high level of reliability in delivering power and heat to the campus. Read more on the steam outage.

Nominations sought for UAF Alumni Association board

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Alumni Association is accepting nominations to serve three-year terms on its 12-member board of directors. Nominations will be accepted through March 5. UAFAA members will elect the directors in March, with new board members beginning their terms on April 20. Learn more about this opportunity.

The Mill is open

Visit the Mill (Making is Learning Lab) during open hours, Monday to Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. Use 3D printers, sublimation printers, cutting machines, and more. No permission is required; instructional designers and lab attendants are available for assistance. Learn more about the Mill and using the space.


Nominate outstanding graduating students for awards

Nominations are sought for the Marion Frances Boswell Memorial Award, the Joel Weigert Award and the Gray S. Tilly Memorial Award which recognize outstanding UAF graduates each year. Nominations must be received by Friday, Feb. 23. Read more on the awards.

The University of Alaska Museum of the North will host a free public event to celebrate the diverse narratives of Black Alaskans on Friday, Feb. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The celebration will showcase "Black in Alaska: Interior Edition," a multimedia exhibit that examines the rich history and experience of Black life in Alaska through storytelling. Students2Startups internship program recruiting students

Center ICE's Students2Startups summer internship program connects University of Alaska students and startup companies. Students work directly with companies and gain skills in their field of interest through collaborating to identify challenges, use tools and experiments, and develop solutions. Apply for UA Teacher Internship Scholarship

Alaska needs teachers. The University of Alaska is providing scholarships to help those interested in teaching complete a degree and become a certified teacher for Alaska. Applications are due April 1. Learn more about the scholarship program.


Food protection manager course offered Feb. 27

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will offer a certified food protection manager training on Tuesday, Feb. 27, with proctors for testing available in 16 communities. Read more on the course and how to register.
