Arctic Innovation Competition awards over $45,000 for ideas

A durable storage tote for expeditions took the top prize in the 2024 Arctic Innovation Competition's main division. The competition awarded more than $45,000 in cash prizes and scholarships on Saturday, April 20, at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel. Read more on the winners.


Birch Dinner hosted by OneTree Alaska and Sustainability

The UAF Office of Sustainability and OneTree Alaska will host a birch-themed dinner experience in The Pub on Tuesday, April 30 at 5 p.m. The menu will explore the versatility of birch syrup and all of the birch syrup integrated into the meal is produced on the UAF Troth Yeddha' campus in the OneTree STEAM Studio. We will be doing a walk around campus on April 26 at 7 p.m. for the event "Take Back the Night '' with the memorial afterward by the circle garden and then we will gather inside Arctic Java for a short presentation. Read more on this memorial event.


Structural realignment of UAF Advising Services

Effective July 1, 2024, First Year Advising, Student Support Services, and several individual positions in the Center for Teaching and Learning will move from the Office of the Provost to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. BLaST celebrates Robin Masterman as April 2024 Scientist of the Month

BLaST Scholar Robin Masterman is the BLaST Scientist of the Month for April 2024! Masterman is a fourth-year BLaST Scholar and a senior in UAF’s Biological Sciences BS program. Masterman plans to apply to medical school and return to Alaska to practice as a family physician in rural communities. Learn more about Masterman.


Reminder: UAF Troth Yeddha' Campus steam outage planned

Annually, the Facilities Services Division of Utilities performs preventative maintenance and repair work on the power plant and the utilidor system. Starting on May 5, steam from the power plant will be shut off to the entirety of the Troth Yeddha' Campus for two weeks. Steam will return to service around May 19. Stewardship of our utility investments is critical to maintain a high level of reliability in delivering power and heat to the campus. Read more about the about the outage.

New for fall 2024 UAF Bookstore Bundle

UAF is making it more affordable and convenient for students access their required course materials with the launch of the UAF Bookstore Bundle program. Starting in fall 2024, students will have the option to rent all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes, digital materials and electronic books for a flat fee of $20 per credit hour. This charge is automatically applied to their student account upon registering for classes. Students who prefer not to participate will have the option opt-out of the program and continue to purchase their course materials on their own. Learn more about the new bundle.

Students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA applications before the end of April so the UAF Financial Aid Office can get their aid offers sent for the 2024-2025 year in May. Read more on completing the FAFSA.

Alaska EPSCoR 2024 Spring Travel Awards

Alaska NSF EPSCoR is offering travel funding for the 2024 spring and summer seasons. Awards of up to $3,500 are available to support University of Alaska affiliates traveling domestically to STEAM-related conferences, workshops, presentations, meetings, training, or education activities prior to Aug. 31, 2024.
