BLaST URE AY2024-2025 research funding

The Biomedical Learning and Student Training program at UAF invites students to apply now to earn up to $6,000* to conduct research for the 2024-2025 academic year. This award may be used to cover hourly wages, tuition, travel, supplies, and services. The deadline to apply is Monday, May 27 by midnight.

Take a LEAP into student success

The UAF Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking faculty and student applicants to participate in the Learner Experience Advocacy Program for the 2024 fall semester. Students who participate in the program have the opportunity to get a $1,500 scholarship. Learn more about the program and submit applications by May 15.


Gender inclusive options now available in Concur profiles

Concur has introduced an improvement aimed at promoting inclusivity for non-binary travelers. Specifically, within the TSA Secure Flight section of the Concur Travel Profile page, two additional gender options have been incorporated: unspecified (X) and undisclosed (U). This update ensures a broader representation of gender identities, fostering a more inclusive environment for travelers. Read more about the new Concur option.

Diane O'Brien elected to the National Academy of Sciences

Over 40 future teachers awarded UA Teacher Internship Scholarship at UAF

The University of Alaska is in its second year of offering the UA Teacher Internship Scholarship to help those interested in teaching to complete a degree and become a certified Alaska teacher. The scholarship covers tuition and fees at UA Schools of Education and a stipend up to $10,000 to offset living expenses during the critical full-time internship. Read more information.

$20K Summer Seed Funding through Center ICE

Center ICE’s Summer Seed Funding opportunity is open for submissions. We’re looking for entrepreneurial researchers interested in expanding their interests and projects to scale toward solving applied and innovative problems. This call for the Center ICE seed fund is to support up to three awards, each up to $20,000, for research projects focused on building impactful solutions. Solar storm -- not HAARP -- creates intense auroral display

Night skies over the weekend erupted with vivid colors and awed people all around the globe as the solar wind from a severe geomagnetic storm produced by our sun entered Earth's upper atmosphere and created auroral displays. The spectacular aurora sparked questions about possible connections to recent experiments by the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program, or HAARP.
