UAF names spring 2024 honors students

The University of Alaska Fairbanks has announced the students named to the deans' and chancellor's lists for the spring 2024 semester. The lists recognize students' outstanding academic achievements. Read more about the spring student honors.

Intro to Strength noon sessions

The Student Recreation Center has a new group fitness offering for Intro to Strength on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. The offering is a six-week program that began July 23 and is free for current members of the SRC. Read more and register.


Student options with UAF Bookstore Bundle program

UAF Bookstore Bundle is the new all-encompassing, affordable textbook rental program you've heard about this summer. The Bookstore Bundle ensures transparent and predictable costs to help plan college expenses. With this program, students have two options. Either verify their book order and preferred way to receive materials, or choose to opt out of the program by Sept. 13, 2024. Read more on the options.

Livestock nutrition workshops in Fairbanks, Delta Junction

Rachael Christensen, a research animal scientist with the Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service, will lead two free livestock nutrition workshops. The focus will be on ruminant species, such as cows, goats, sheep and yaks. Learn more on the events and pre-register.

Leif Albertson, UAF Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent, will teach an in-person workshop on Aug. 20 in Anchorage on how to can your catch and fill your pantry with safe, shelf-stable and delicious fish. Learn more and register to attend.

Biochar is another tool for soil management

Burning wood can create more than smoky summers and cozy winters by the stove. Roasted trees, shrubs and other plants can also be used to amend soils, store carbon and reduce hazardous fuels in forests through a product called biochar. Professors are teaching farmers in Alaska how to make and use biochar and how it might affect soil health. Learn more on the biochar workshops and webinar.

Field Day showcases Fairbanks agricultural research

Spend an afternoon in the fields of the Fairbanks Experiment Farm with researchers and learn about the agriculture-related science happening at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Fairbanks Research Field Day, 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, is a free educational event designed to share the knowledge created at the farm with for farmers, community leaders and the general public. If your office or department has any extra swag or info you want to present to the incoming class, drop it off at Wood Center Suite 101C.
