The Honors College hired Climate Faculty Fellows Katie Spellman and Kristin Timm into the Honors family this past month. Their bios can be found on our social media pages. Katie and Kristen are a part of the Alaska Fellow Program which is one of the many facets of the Climate Scholars Program. The Climate Scholars Program (CSP) is an opportunity for high achieving students that are interested in studying climate change. The CSP offers many opportunities for students such as the Summer Honor Institute, an immersive three-week dual-credit course in which high school students mix with UAF Honors students through an interactive peer to peer mentorship program where they go on a one week hiking trip in Denali and then spend two weeks in the classroom learning about Alaska Native history, Wolf Pack Ecology, and more. Other opportunities include the Climate Exchange, the Climate Book Prize, the Arete Project, the Climate Makerspace, and the Model Arctic Council. In order to enroll in the CSP, students are expected to have, at a minimum, a 3.6 cumulative high school GPA, or a 1280 SAT / 27 ACT.
