Mandatory Health Insurance Coverage

UAF offers an employer-sponsored health insurance plan for employees in benefit-eligible positions.  Information about the plan and coverages is available on the UA Statewide Benefits website, along with a complete description of all employee benefits. Information will be provided to you during your UA Human Resource new employee orientation. You may also elect to have your spouse and children covered under the insurance. There are employee and family member charges that are deducted from each paycheck.

Note: There is a 30-day wait period before coverage becomes effective. You may wish to purchase health insurance or continue your health insurance coverage from home until your UAF health insurance is effective.

NOTE: The J-1 Exchange Visitor status has specific requirements established by the U.S. Department of State regarding health insurance.  The UA health plans do NOT meet the Department of State requirements. You must provide documentation of coverage meeting the DOS minimum requirements.  Willful noncompliance with this requirement is grounds for immediate termination of your exchange visitor program.
