A complete view of School of Management from the perspective of students, faculty, donors, alumni, volunteers and the Dean.

photo On behalf of all our faculty, staff and students, welcome to UAF School of Management! As dean of the school, I am extremely proud of our team’s dedication to  providing innovative, experience-based business education.

As an AACSB-accredited school, SOM abides by the three main pillars of engagement, innovation and impact.  AACSB is the largest and most widely recognized business accreditation organization in the world. Not just a “stamp of approval,” the process of earning AACSB accreditation requires a serious, long-term commitment by the school to develop, implement and maintain the highest level of quality education for its students.

SOM programs and faculty can help transform students into lifelong learners with the ability to thrive in an ever-changing world, whatever their life and career goals may be. Our students will find faculty who really care, a strong sense of community and high-quality programs as they advance through their academic journeys.

I am grateful for the time, expertise and financial contributions our supporters share with SOM.

Sense of Community

SOM provides a strong sense of community for students, faculty and alumni. The wide variety of events, clubs and opportunities makes it easy for people to get involved. Through these experiences, students are able to make connections with their peers and find people who can offer support and mentorship. There is a feeling of connectedness that comes from the high level of community involvement, even for distance education students.

photo “Living in Delta Junction, my life is far from campus, yet I feel included. The SOM team frequently reaches out to me with newsletters, emails, and with kindness. I am able to interact with professors in a way that I have not experienced before, and it is exciting. This outreach has allowed me to engage even more with the SOM team and become more involved, even through the virtual experience.”

Current accounting student

Quality Programs

Whether in the classroom or online, programs offered at SOM are of the highest quality. SOM is the only business school in the state with both business accreditation and specialized accounting accreditation from AACSB, a highly sought after dual accreditation that has only been attained by approximately 1.5% of universities worldwide. Several classes are Quality Matters certified, meaning they are well designed, engaging online courses that have been reviewed and meet national standards. SOM classes prepare students for the workforce through projects like developing  actual business plans and through clear links between classroom concepts and their real-world applications.

Sport and Recreation Business instructor

Faculty Who Care

Caring at SOM is about more than just teaching. Our faculty members are focused on mentorship, and they actively promote and encourage students in ways that benefit their academic careers. Caring about students also means providing opportunities to work with businesses on actual projects that will expand their knowledge and skills. Additionally, there are options to take on increased responsibility and leadership roles within student organizations.
