The UAF Faculty Senate passed the following at its Meeting #36 on
September 21, 1992:
MOTION PASSED (unanimous)
==============
The UAF Faculty Senate moves to amend the UAF Credit for Prior
Learning policy as follows:
[[ ]] Deletions
CAPS Additions
In acknowledging that individuals learn a great deal outside the
walls of educational institutions, some UAF departments participate
in a program where up to [[45 credits]] 25% OF TOTAL CREDIT
REQUIREMENTS for prior learning may be granted to you if you're a[[n
undergraduate degree or certificate student]] CERTIFICATE,
ASSOCIATE OR BACHELOR'S DEGREE STUDENT. [[For the Associate of
Applied Science degree and the Bachelor of Technology degree, up to
60 credits may be awarded based on federal, state or professional
certifications or licenses, if applicable to your degree program.]]
Credentials are reviewed by faculty from participating departments
who make recommendations for awarding prior learning credit for
specific courses that will apply toward CERTIFICATE, associate or
baccalaureate degree requirements. Credit received for prior
learning doesn't impact your GPA and is not considered as residence
credit. For further information concerning credit for prior learning,
contact the Advising Center at the Fairbanks campus.
EFFECTIVE: Spring 1993
Upon Chancellor's approval
RATIONALE: A strong recommendation from the Northwest
Association of Schools and Colleges made in our last
accreditation report of 1990 is to modify our Credit for
Prior Learning policy so that no more than 25% of the
credit for any academic program can come from such
credit. This proposed change implements this
recommendation and places us in compliance with
Association standards.
