Community Invited to Chukchi Campus's Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration
 
Monday, Oct. 9.  
8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.: We will be showing documentaries showcasing Indigenous people from all over the world.  
 
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Qayusaaq and donut making food demonstrations.  Qayusaaq is a cranberry drink made to help boost the immune system during cold/flu season, and also during holidays and special events.  Dipping donuts into the qayusaaq is a traditional delicacy.  
 
12 - 1:30 p.m.: Community potluck sharing Indigenous foods, please bring your favorite dish to share!  Also during this time, we will have a meet and great with a team of scientists that will be presenting their project on climate change and how it is effecting sea ice in our region and showing us their instruments - including a drone and some footage they've taken so far.
 
1:30- 2:30 p.m.: Our doors will be open and the community is welcome to continue discussing climate change as we prep for the next event.
 
2:30 - 5 p.m.: We will be hosting kids crafts, making globes out of paper mâché and learning about Indigenous People from all over the world.  During this time, we will also have several elders visiting our youth and sharing stories with them.
 
Tuesday October 10
6 - 8:30 p.m.: Another team of scientists will be presenting another project to the community, this one focusing on climate change and how it is effecting soil and permafrost in our region.  They will be recruiting for three participants who will help in the process of sites instrumentation and can maintain the observations through September 2018.
