General Studies — Exploratory Major
Bachelor's Degree Program
With so many exciting degree options to choose from, picking a major can sometimes feel overwhelming. A great option is to begin an exploratory general studies major. This is very common — a third of all incoming UAF students start college as exploratory or general studies majors.
Some great reasons to select general studies are:
- You’re interested in multiple degree fields
- You’re not quite sure what you’re interested in yet
- You haven't met all the specific admissions requirements for a particular major and need to fulfill those first
- You’re seeking a major or degree that UAF does not offer
When do I need to declare a major?
While you don’t need to declare a major during your first year, it’s wise to investigate and plan to do so during your sophomore year. There may be courses you’d like to take with prerequisites that are important to take early in the degree program. Your academic advisor is a great resource to help you decide when to choose your major, and what major to choose when you do.
