Alumni gauntlet

New grads celebrated

High fives and noisemakers greeted the Class of 2017 at The Pub on April 29 during the annual Grad Bash celebration sponsored by the UAFAA and The Pub. Grads had free admission; their guests spun the wheel to determine the cover charge, and a drawing of all cover revenue went to a lucky grad that night. Congratulations to all the graduates, especially those who braved the alumni gauntlet!

Alumni Association lends support to IARC display

The UAF Alumni Association, through its member-supported Benefactor Fund, recently made a $35,000 donation to UAF's International Arctic Research Center for a solid terrain model of the Arctic and two display screens. The exhibit will welcome IARC visitors and connect people to the changing Arctic and UAF's research. Above, the donation was recognized at the May 3 Creation of the College event, which honored the signing of the legislation that created the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines, the forerunner to UAF, on May 3, 1917. Pictured above from left are Chancellor Dana Thomas `74, Professor Scott Rupp `98, and UAFAA board President Peter Van Flein`87. Thanks to all of our Benefactor donors! Photo JR Ancheta`15.

Why I serve the UAFAA

This November, the UAF Alumni Association celebrates 90 years of connecting UAF alumni to their alma mater. As president of this long-standing organization, I'm extremely proud of the work we do to recognize UAF alumni, to share the good news about our quality institution and to lend support and advocacy. A vibrant university and commited alumni base is incredibly important for the economic health of our state. Becoming a member of the UAFAA helps us all walk the talk. Membership supports six endowed student scholarships, the alumni awards program, grants to enhance campus and student life through our Benefactor Fund program, the annual Nanook Rendezvous reunion and much more.
