What a reunion! Centennial Rendezvous a huge success

JR-17-5342-8
More than 100 alumni marching in the Golden Days Parade. Alumni basking in the beautiful sun at UAF's Georgeson Botanical Garden. Alums and family members enjoying the Alaska Salmon Bake and the Riverboat Discovery. A fun night at the ballpark, with the Nanook Night at the Goldpanners. All followed by a good-bye brunch at Pike's Landing.

Alumni from as far away as Florida and Massachusetts joined their fellow Nanooks right here in Alaska for a wonderful weekend full of stories, memories, exploring our beautiful campus and sneaking a peek at what Fairbanks has to offer in the summertime. Check out more Rendezvous photos available for purchase, like the one above and below by JR Ancheta `15, at the 2017 Rendezvous reunion photo gallery. Alum donation is legendary

Alumnus Russell Knapp `69, of Nassau, New York, donated a matted-and-framed 1929 aerial photo of campus exactly like the wall mural in the Alumni Lounge. This one includes a legend, with thanks to history Professor Terrence Cole, that identifies each building and feature on campus and in the area.

The beautiful photo was unveiled at a recent board meeting of the UAFAA, following the Nanook Hall of Fame inductee brunch. Pictured above are Russ, left, and alumni director Kate Ripley `11 next to the "legandary" photo. Photo by Paul McCarthy.
Germany Summer Sessions April 2018 trip

View the itinerary and check out additional travel opportunities that are ahead with your friends, alums and retirees of UAF! Alumni awards are upon us

The UAF Alumni Association is soliciting nominations for two 2018 awards: the Distinguished Alumnus Award and the William R. Cashen Service Award. Nominations open on Nov. 1 and will be accepted until Dec. 22, when most of the university closes for the mandatory holiday break. After much debate, and many committee meetings, the Board of Directors of the UAFAA decided unanimously to limit its annual awards to just these two, highlighting the best of the best of our alumni and friends. The goal is to make the awards more special.
Amanda Wall
The UAFAA tried this approach last year, presenting the two awards during the dazzling Blue & Gold Gala in February. Virginia Farmier `84 was honored as Distinguished Alumna and Jo Scott, a longtime friend and UAF supporter, was honored with the William R. Cashen Service Award, which can go to either an alum or a non-alum who has contributed greatly to the advancement of UAF. We liked this idea so much that we've since codified it
going forward.

So put on your thinking caps and get involved. Who deserves to be nominated, and why? Check out our new nominations form online, and research past winners. Then send us your nominations!
As always, go `Nooks!

Anchorage picnic draws a good crowd of Nanooks

Alumni living in Anchorage and the Mat-Su turned out for a wonderful gourmet picnic, complete with grilled salmon and ribs, on Saturday, July 29, at the home of Jenny Lauesen, sister of UAFAA board member Rachel Lauesen `04. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this happen, and to Josh Ahsoak for the donation of fresh wild salmon.

Fairbanks alumni raise money for scholarships

The Fairbanks chapter of the UAFAA raised nearly $5,000 for student scholarships during the Tanana Valley State Fair in August. The booth drew nearly 100 volunteers, who bonded over burgers! Thank you to all the volunteers. Each received a complimentary UAF 100 blue and gold scarf for their efforts.
