Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program
The Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) started at UAA in 1995 with a single student and later in 2002 at UAF. ANSEP is a longitudinal education model that provides a continuous string of components beginning with students in the sixth grade. This model continues through high school, then to the University, and finally to graduate school at the PhD level. The program has now more than 2,000 Alaska middle school students, high school students, university students and ANSEP alumni. The retention and professional development aspects of ANSEP are vital components to the academic success of Alaska Native students pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
