Lecture by Chad Briggs
With rapid changes to both natural and built environments in the Arctic, national
security planning requires detailed knowledge of future conditions to develop strategy
and adapt operations. This discussion details how previous efforts in the US intelligence
and military communities attempted to translate scientific data into actionable foresight,
and what options might exist for improving security policies in Alaska in the future.
Chad Briggs is the Director of Public Policy and Administration and Associate Professor
at the College of Business and Public Policy, UAA. Before coming to Alaska last year,
he was based in Kosovo and Ukraine for four years, where he worked on hybrid/cyber
warfare and energy policy. Dr. Briggs was formerly Minerva Chair and Professor of
Energy and Environmental Security at the Air War College, and a senior advisor at
the US Dept of Energy.
