UAF at a Glance

  • Originally founded in 1917 when Alaska was still a territory, today UAF is America’s northernmost land, sea and space grant institution.
  • UAF encompasses the main campus in Fairbanks; Bristol Bay Campus in Dillingham; Chukchi Campus in Kotzebue; Interior-Aleutians Campus, covering the Interior and Aleutians; Kuskokwim Campus in Bethel; Northwest Campus in Nome; and Tanana Valley Campus in Fairbanks.
  • UAF offers 160 degrees and 20 certificates in 110 disciplines.
  • The UAF Center for Distance Education offers some 120 courses in 39 disciplines to more than 4,000 students.
  • UAF’s enrollment topped 10,000 students for the first time in fall 2003. This record enrollment represents an 11.7 percent increase over fall 2002.
  • In the 2003-04 academic year, 409 proposals from UAF faculty were awarded nearly $175 million in private, state and federal grants.
