Graduates of SNRAS use their academic training to facilitate the wise management of Alaska’s land-based renewable resources. Undergraduate programs lead to bachelor’s degrees in geography, natural resources management with options in resources; plant, animal, and soil sciences; and forestry. The forestry option is accredited by the Society of American Foresters, which is recognized by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation as the specialized accrediting agency for forestry in the United States.
Faculty and students conduct research at the Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station in Fairbanks and Palmer, and at the Forest Soils Laboratory in Fairbanks. SNRAS developed its courses and programs in close cooperation with many university units, private industry, and local, state and federal agencies. These cooperative arrangements provide students with opportunities for fieldwork and internships in the degree options listed above, as well as in outdoor recreation, water resources management, park and wilderness management, geographic information systems and research planning and administration.
