Minimum Requirements for Degree: B.A.: 120 credits
Linguistics is the scientific study of language and covers a variety of subjects from theories of grammar and how we produce language to applications of linguistic knowledge in areas such as language teaching. The Linguistics Program offers undergraduate courses and seeks to give an overview of the discipline to make students aware of the many aspects of that uniquely human phenomenon, language.
Undergraduate Degree Requirements
Linguistics B.A. Degree
- Complete the general university requirements.
- Complete the B.A. degree requirements.
- Complete the following program (major) requirements:
- Background-related Requirements (15-19 credits)
Four semesters (or equivalent) of one foreign or Native language and two semesters of a second. (It is recommended that at least one of the languages be other than an Indo-European language.) (12-16)

Complete the following Linguistics courses:

Complete 7 of the following courses:

LING 450 Language Policy and Planning (3)
LING 482 Topics in Linguistics (may be taken twice) (3)

A minor in linguistics requires 15 credits in linguistics. Three of these credits may be from related courses in other departments as listed under B. above.
