Student Support Services Project

The mission of SSSP is to work in partnership with students to achieve academic success and student retention. It is a federally funded TRIO program that provides academic and personal support to students who meet the eligibility criteria. Students are eligible for the program if they are U.S. citizens and:
- in need of academic support (example: low high school grade point average, low EACT or SAT scores, GED recipients, students on academic probation, older returning students)
- the first generation in their family to attend college (neither parent or guardian graduated from college and earned a baccalaureate degree)
- low income (example: students receiving or eligible for Pell Grants, SEIG, SEOG, AFDC, and BIA award meet this criteria), or have a documented disability and need academic support.
The program offers services that assist students in strengthening their academic and personal skills for college and in using the university more effectively. These services include:
- Free courses in math, reading, science and college success skills (developmental and degree-level courses)
- Free tutoring
- Academic advising
- Diagnostic assessment in math and reading
- Advocacy and personal support
- Services for students with documented disabilities
- Campus and community resource referrals
- Assistance with finding financial aid, internships and graduate schools.
Students interested in participating in the program can visit the SSSP office, 508 Gruening Building, for an interview.
