CBSM Students Get Professionally Polished!

Story by Skyler Smith, a junior studying digital journalism and a CBSM student marketing assistant.

As CBSM launched into the 2022 spring semester, we had the pleasure of adding another Professionally Polished to the books!

The Professionally Polished program is a collaborative effort between Spirit of Alaska Federal Credit Union, In My Element, and Frank’s Menswear. This program supports the transition from student life to work life. Through this experience, students gain confidence and learn how to polish their professional style – all supported by our generous sponsors.

Frank’s Menswear Spending Spree & Styling

For the fifth year, Spirit of Alaska FCU funded the shopping spree at Frank’s Menswear, a clothing store owned by CBSM alumnus, Jeremiah Smith '05. After writing an essay and going through a review process, the recipients received guidance from Frank’s staff on how to style and shop for professional work attire.

In My Element Shopping Spree

In My Element, a women’s clothing boutique owned by UAF alumna, Sheryl DeBoard '78, has donated clothing to the College of Business and Security Management since 2014. The generous donations from In My Element, combined with private donations of gently-used professional clothing from community members, creates this unique opportunity for students. Recipients gain access to high quality clothing and learn the importance of having key basic pieces of clothing in their wardrobe. They are now prepared for entering the workforce or attending formal events.

https://youtu.be/J_I4cZMtGAsStudents shared their thanks with a video describing how helpful the stylish clothing will be and what articles of clothing they are most excited about having in their wardrobe.

Professionally Polished is one of the many opportunities that CBSM provides for our students outside of the classroom.
