Excellent for ornamental plantings; bark is the most vividly colored red of all dogwoods especially colorful in the winter landscape; vigorous growth and hardiness; flowers are small clusters of creamy white followed by white or light blue fruits; green leaves turn red purple in autumn; tolerates sun or full shade, wet or dry soils. |
Limitations |
Prune old stems to keep plant vigorous and for best red twig color; neither species nor cultivars have been successful in Fairbanks. |
