Low shrubby tree; straight trunk when young becoming irregular with age; variable shape due to seed source; needles 2" long in clusters of two; cones point backward toward trunk; tolerates boggy soil; needs full sun.

Native species more available as seed than as a plant.

Southeast Alaska through western British Columbia to northwest California. The coastal subspecies of lodgepole pine.
