Distinctions

Good survival in Alaska; survival in western part of state possible on inland sites out of the wind; needles in clusters of 2; yellowish-green, 2"–2.5" long; cones point outward: intolerant of shade; needs well-drained soil.

Limitations

Loses lower limbs with age; northern seed source necessary for hardiness in interior Alaska. May be damaged by moose browse.
