Distinctions

Upright, vase-shaped habit; dark green leaves are pointy and serrated; adaptable plant tolerates both dry and wet conditions; not particular as to soil type or pH; able to handle environmental salt and is tolerant of urban pollution.

Limitations

Susceptible to Dutch elm disease although DED is not present in Alaska; some new cultivars are resistant to DED; plant in full sunlight.
