Distinctions

Small rounded tree; leaves are almost star-shaped with five lobes, red when they emerge and glossy green in summer; yellow, orange, red fall color; tolerant of urban locations and dry soils; adaptable to alkaline or acidic soils.

None; few plants in Southcentral Alaska.

Cultivars

‘Norwegian Sunset’ and ‘Pacific Sunset’ are Acer truncatum and A. platanoides hybrids. They have an upright form with excellent orange-red autumn color.
