Distinctions

Similar to balsam fir; pyramidal crown with spire-like tip; dark green foliage with silvery undersides; dark purplish cones; suited to moist, cool soils but adaptable to a range of soil conditions; grows in shade to full sun.

Limitations

Tendency to break bud later than balsam or Fraser fir, which may be preferable.
