Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) offers free nutrition classes to help families and youth cook healthy meals at home, be more active, save money on food costs, and handle food safely. EFNEP is designed to serve families with limited resources and is funded by USDA NIFA through the land-grant university Extension system.
Nutrition Education For Adults
EFNEP helps participants learn skills and strategies to feed their family nutritious meals on a limited budget and improve their overall health. The skills learned also help families adopt positive habits and behaviors to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Adult workshops focus on learning basic cooking skills, simple meal planning, food budgeting and shopping skills, and how to live a more active lifestyle.
Nutrition Education For Youths
EFNEP partners with local non-profit organizations and Title 1 schools to teach nutrition and physical activity skills to school-aged youths. Our evidence-based curricula meets state and national health education standards and covers all grades from kindergarten through 12th. Topics include: replacing sweetened drinks with milk or water, eating more vegetables or fruits, reducing high fat and high sugar foods, and active play for 60 minutes each day.
