Alaska Lumber Grading Program

Local-use Dimension Lumber Grading for Homebuilding in Alaska

Lumber

The Alaska Lumber Grading Program provides a certification course to allow small and medium scale sawmill operators to produce dimension lumber from local spruce, hemlock, and yellow cedar for home construction in Alaska. When the conditions of the program are met, the lumber may be accepted as an alternative to grade-stamped lumber for structural applications where required by residential building codes.

The program also provides ongoing technical support in dimension lumber grading and educational resources in supplemental topics including lumber drying and sawmill operation.

Learn more about the program on the FAQ's page. And sign up for the newsletter to get announcements of new courses and other educational opportunities.

Certified producers will find essential ALG materials in the Resources section.
