Andrew Miles brings expertise to improve Alaska communities

The Alaska Center for Energy and Power is delighted to have Andrew Miles on board as its new research assistant professor. Miles brings his expertise in power system modeling and protection to improve the resiliency of Alaska’s communities.


CRCD Research Speaker Series

The College of Rural and Community Development is hosting a monthly speaker series during the 2022-2023 academic year highlighting research. The first speaker in the CRCD Research Speaker Series is Walkie Charles, director of the UAF Alaska Native Language Center, who will present on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from noon-1 p.m. online. Please register in advance. The monthly series focuses on community-based research, Indigenous knowledge in academia, and best practices for ethical research. Staff, faculty and students are encouraged to attend. 


New UAF web template themes available

University Relations has updated themes available for UAF's Omni CMS web template as part of our ongoing brand refresh. To select an updated web theme, please fill out the UAF web theme request form by Dec. 31, 2022. The University Relations web team will contact you to coordinate when to apply your updated theme choice. Websites without an updated theme request by the deadline will have the Default Blue theme applied over the the spring 2023 semester. If you have any questions or concerns about these upcoming changes, please reach out to the University Relations web team at uaf-web@alaska.edu.

Panel discussion with microreactor vendors planned for Oct. 13

A panel discussion, led by Gwen Holdmann, the associate vice chancellor of research, innovation and industry partnerships at the University of Alaska Fairbanks,  featuring vendors for nuclear microreactors will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center, 3605 Cartwright Court, building C. Panelists at the public event will share information about the technology and offer insights about the potential market for nuclear microreactors in Alaska. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. The UAF Alaska Center for Energy and Power and the Fairbanks Economic Development Corp. are hosting the presentation.
