Exhibit explores Black life in Alaska

A multimedia exhibit opening Dec. 16 at the University of Alaska Museum of the North examines the rich history and experience of Black life in Alaska through storytelling. “Black in Alaska: Interior Edition” will be open to the public during regular museum hours through April 1, 2024. The University of Alaska Fairbanks has secured a $14.9-million grant from the U.S. Department of Education and Innovation Research to expand its teacher mentorship program. The Alaska Statewide Mentor Project will expand from serving only first- and second-year teachers to mentoring all teachers new to the state, including experienced educators from other countries. CTC Culinary Arts cooks up support for Stone Soup Café

UAF Community and Technical College Culinary Arts and Hospitality faculty and staff are extending a helping hand at Bread Line, Inc.'s Stone Soup Café by serving free meals to the community from Dec. 20-22. In addition to their service, they are collecting donations to support the vital work this organization does in addressing hunger in Fairbanks. Learn more about how to donate with CTC.

UAF offices closed for the winter break

Most offices at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will close for the winter break from Dec. 23, 2023, to Jan. 2, 2024. Some public venues will be open during parts of the break. Shuttle service will be available on the Nenana and Yukon routes from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 18-22 and Jan. 3-12. Full service resumes Jan. 16. A more detailed list of campus hours during the winter break is available online. Read more on winter break hours.

EPSCoR survey for NSF GRANTED collaboration

Alaska EPSCoR is gathering survey input from faculty, staff, students and researchers to guide an NSF award to explore solutions for overcoming barriers of isolation and other challenges at remote universities. Please share your perspective through this 15-minute survey.


Men's Ice Hockey

The Nanooks take on Augustana University in home games at the Carlson Center on Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m. The Nanook Express, a free student shuttle from the Troth Yeddha' Campus to the Carlson Center, will pick up continuously starting at 6 p.m. and the final shuttle leaves the Carlson Center at 9:45 p.m. Read for more details on shuttle stops, themes for the games, the teddy bear toss and pet food drive.
