Wildfire Walk opening celebration July 11

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will celebrate a new interpretive trail July 11 at the 2021 Yankovich Road Fire site, where 3.5 acres burned within 100 yards of a neighborhood.

The Wildfire Walk educates visitors about the fire site through nine interpretive signs describing the relationship between wildfire and the boreal forest, fire science and climate change, and wildfire prevention. Learn more about the trail and opening celebration.

Rural Alaska Honors Institute will celebrate 42nd graduation

The Rural Alaska Honors Institute will hold its 42nd annual graduation July 11 from 1-2:30 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium. The ceremony will stream live on Facebook. Read more about about RAHI.


Office of the Provost staff changes

The Provost’s Office will soon see changes to its staff. Jen Hoppough’s title has been updated to chief of faculty affairs and services to better reflect the variety of services she provides. Sarah Thomas will join the office as the incoming assistant to the provost and administrative assistant to the Office of the Provost. Read more about the changes.

Mystery of the glass tool kit in the sand

From space, the Nogahabara Dunes are a splotch of blond sand about 6 miles in diameter surrounded by green boreal forest. Located west of the Koyukuk River, the dunes are the site of an uncommon discovery. Learn about the obsidian tools discovered at Nogahabara Dunes.
