Leif Albertson, University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent, will teach an in-person workshop on Aug. 20 in Anchorage on how to can your catch and fill your pantry with safe, shelf-stable and delicious fish. Biochar is another tool for soil management

Burning wood can create more than smoky summers and cozy winters by the stove. Roasted trees, shrubs and other plants can also be used to amend soils, store carbon and reduce hazardous fuels in forests through a product called biochar. This summer, two professors are teaching farmers in Alaska how to make and use biochar and how it might affect soil health. Read more on workshops and a webinar the professors are holding.

New Student Orientation is officially one month away! The Center for Student Engagement will collect items for our new student bags until Aug. 8. If your office or department has any extra swag or info you want to present to the incoming class, drop it off at Wood Center Suite 101C.
