'Alaska's Changing Environment' -- a new report

The University of Alaska Fairbanks released a new report this week highlighting environmental changes and extremes that impact Alaskans and their livelihoods. "Alaska's Changing Environment" provides people with timely, reliable and understandable information on topics ranging from temperature and precipitation changes to salmon and polar bears. NASA-funded project looks for answers about aurora's energy

Most electrons that create the aurora have a moderate amount of energy, but scientists want to know more about how electrons on either side on that scale -- more and less energy -- affect the electrical properties of the ionosphere, the part of Earth's upper atmosphere that is ionized by the sun. Student art sale

The biannual student art sale is here! Come out to support our students, and do some holiday shopping at the same time. The sale will be held in the ceramics, printmaking, and metalsmithing studios (Fine Arts Complex rooms 415, 405, and 403) on Dec. 6, from noon to 6 p.m. Learn more about the sale.

Informal trail from Reichardt to Museum closed

Due to flushing of hydrants on Dec. 3, resulting in a lot of ice, the closure is expected to last for at least a week. People who normally use the trail should use Yukon Drive instead.

Free holiday ice cleats

Give yourself a holiday gift and pick up a free pair of ice cleats to stop your slipping and sliding this winter! Just show your Polar ID on Dec. 5 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Wood Center Mall area and staff from the EHSRM department will provide ice cleats for your use.
