Director of Libraries - Student Survey

We seek your input in a survey assessing the job performance of Director of Libraries Karen Jensen. The purpose of this survey is to incorporate faculty, staff, and student input as part of UAF’s administrator development and evaluation program. All parts of the evaluation will be anonymous. Please complete the survey at your earliest convenience. It should take about 15-20 minutes to complete. The survey will remain open until March 14, 2023. Nominations open for 2023 student commencement speaker

ASUAF is accepting nominations for student commencement speakers. Any UAF faculty, staff or student may nominate a fall 2022, spring 2023 or summer 2023 graduate to give the student address at Commencement on May 6, 2023. Nominations may be made via this Google form. The deadline for nominations is 
March 3.

Join Barrett Salisbury, manager of the State of Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys Earthquake and Tsunami Hazards program, on Friday, March 3 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Elvey Auditorium as he talks about active tectonic faults that contribute to the soon-to-be-released updated Alaska Seismic Hazard maps.

The 51st annual Delta Farm Forum will take place Saturday, March 4 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Delta Junction. The forum is a community event combined with an update on local agricultural info. Life Science Hour Seminar: Eco-acoustics with Matthew Burtner

Join Alaskan-born composer, sound artist, and eco-acoustician Matthew Burtner Friday, March 3 from 3-4 p.m. in the Murie Auditorium where he will discuss recent projects involving long-term ecological research (LTER) and describe how computational audio interpretations of scientific data can lead to new ways of “hearing” temporality and change in the environment.

Responsible Conduct of Research Training

Responsible Conduct of Research training will be offered in-person on Saturday, March 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. This workshop fulfills the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health requirements for formal RCR instruction.

Eco-acoustician, composer, and sound artist Matthew Burtner will perform at the Davis Concert Hall on Thursday, March 2 from 7-9 p.m. as part of a one-week residency at UAF. The event is free to UAF students and $10 for General Admission. A reception in the Great Hall will follow.

UAF breaks another Giving Day record with $834,000 raised

The University of Alaska Fairbanks had another record-breaking turnout during the third annual UA Giving Day event Feb. 22-23. Over the course of 49 hours, more than 800 donors contributed $834,244 to support students and programs at UAF, an increase of more than 26% over the amount raised during the previous Giving Day event. The total included 46 large matching gifts from dozens of sponsors. Learn more.

The UAF Department of Theatre & Film presents The Shape of Things, written by Neil LaBute and directed by Rachel Blackwell, in the Lee H. Salisbury Lab Theatre. Showings will be Friday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students; $15 for seniors/military/UAF; $20 for adults + $2 at the door (buy online and save). This play is rated R (some language and sexuality). The show runs for 2 hours, and there is no intermission. More information.

URSA Internship Awards accepting applications

URSA is excited to announce the opening of a new undergraduate funding opportunity: Internship Awards! URSA's Internship Awards offer fellowship funding up to $6,000 for the summer or $3,000 for the fall or spring term to support cost-of-living expenses for unpaid or minimally paid* internships with organizations external to UAF.


Museum offers two teen workshops in March

The University of Alaska Museum of the North will offer two ARTSci workshops for teens in March. On Monday, March 6, the program will focus on gyotaku, the Japanese art of fish printing. On March 30, the focus will be faux taxidermy. Both sessions run from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
