Scientists have wondered what happens to the organic and inorganic carbon that Earth's Pacific Plate carries with it as it slides into the planet's interior along the volcano-studded Ring of Fire. A new study suggests a notable amount of such subducted carbon returns to the atmosphere. 


Spaces available in all-day field day camp, July 17-21

This camp for students entering grades 3-8 is designed to provide a wide range of field day game activities, including but not limited to basketball, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, kickball, capture the flag, soccer, water games, and more.

  • First day of instruction for six-week session II (July 5)

  • Deadline for adding classes and late registration, and for tuition and fee payment for six-week session II; 5 p.m. in person, midnight at UAOnline (July 11)

  • Deadline for registration and payment for thesis and research credits (graduate students) (July 11)

  • Last day for student- and faculty-initiated drops with refund for six-week session II (course does not appear on academic record) (July 11)

  • Summer Graduation applications due (July 15)

Spring 2023 Bering Science released

UAF's International Arctic Research Center, along with partners at the Alaska Ocean Observing System, released the Spring 2023 edition of Bering Science.
