Student Intern Spotlight - Heather Jensen
June 29, 2020
Heather Jensen is a sport and recreation business major at UAF. Without any prior knowledge of the Alaska startup community, but with an interest in someday creating her own business, Jensen applied for the Students2Startups program. Since then, she learned that startups, with the right model, can begin from nothing but then grow rapidly. She’s intrigued with learning how she can progress through that field herself.
In the first part of the summer, Jensen and another S2S student, Gabrielle Camp, worked with Anchorage startup Alaska Seeds of Change.
Alaska Seeds of Change employs and empowers local youth, promoting self-reliance and community involvement, to grow and sell fresh produce.
Jensen was working to help create a five-year social media plan for the startup and was also looking at the different skill sets they could teach their young employees to help them progress so they can find jobs that will sustain them for life.
She and Camp have since moved on to working with other startups for the rest of the summer.
Alaska Seeds of Change’s Ryan Witten says, “We enjoyed our time working with Heather and Gabrielle, and look forward to hearing more about what they accomplish through the S2S program. I believe the program is a great way for UA students to get hands-on experience in their community, helping to accelerate small businesses in our state.”
