Students - Work with an Alaskan Startup this summer

January 17, 2023

Are you looking for a summer opportunity to work with an Alaskan startup company? Gain valuable experience in the world of startups and innovation with the Students to Startups (S2S) program!

Our summer — May – August — internship program pairs University of Alaska students with an Alaska startup company and together they develop an entrepreneurial project to support the startup’s growth while the student learns about skills for innovation and entrepreneurialism.

Since its inception in 2019, S2S has paired 21 Alaska startup companies with 36 interns from the UA system.

“Working with an intern at UAF supported our operations by allowing us to develop more content and educational materials that we simply would not have time to create ourselves. The materials created helped our followers better understand our business and our mission,” said a representative from Noble Ocean Farms, a 2022 S2S startup.

These students have experienced life in the world of startups and made a big difference in those businesses’ everyday practices. Some students have worked directly with the startups in their facilities while others have been able to work remotely and provide direct impact to the startup’s growth and development.

“This was a transformative experience and a great way to get applicable work experience! My time with Noble Ocean Farms helped me gain skills for my career and credit for my major,” said Rachel Heimke, a 2022 S2S intern from UAF who worked with Noble Ocean Farms from Cordova.

Alora Greer, a 2022 S2S intern from UAA, worked with Katorium from Anchorage. “S2S was a much-needed opportunity for me. I gained so much confidence thanks to S2S giving me, an inexperienced student, the chance to gain experience that opened more doors for my career,” she said.

You can find more information on the program, examples of learning events, and a list of the interns from the last four years as well as the startups supported through S2S at the Center ICE website: Students2Startups.
