INTERNSHIPS & WORK OPPORTUNITIES
This mentored program offers paid internships in various areas — from biomedical research labs to marketing and communications. Each internship program offers valuable learning opportunities that support academic and career goals.
In addition to completing a mentored research project, interns participate in professional development workshops designed to facilitate preparation of competitive applications to graduate/medical school.
Workshops include:
- Preparing a personal statement, resume and abstract
- How to successfully apply to graduate or medical school
- Preparing and presenting a scientific poster
Interns will also attend weekly research seminars regarding a broad array of scientific topics. The program culminates with a competitive poster session.
The Rural Immersion Institute of the North at the University of Alaska, Anchorage is a 3-week program that introduces healthcare students to the realities of providing care in rural Alaska. Students spend the beginning of the program in Anchorage, learning about Alaskan culture and meeting with healthcare professionals. The next 10 days are spent job-shadowing healthcare professionals in a rural community somewhere in the state. The program concludes in Anchorage, where students give a presentation outlining what they learned during the program.
