EDC
The TFS Environmental Data Center (EDC) offers support to the science community in three ways:
- Collect long-term baseline environmental and biological data.
- Manage TFS common-use laboratory and field equipment.
- Provide limited assistance with field work.
The EDC was developed to meet the needs of an expanding scientific community.
GIS
Growth of Toolik-based science, the number of researchers, and the facility from a tented camp to a research station prompted the establishment of the Toolik GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and Remote Sensing (RS) Program as part of the 5-year Cooperative Agreement between the National Science Foundation and the UAF Institute of Arctic Biology in 2001 (NSF Award No. 9981914). The mission of this Program is to facilitate and enhance arctic research, and to increase research and management efficiency, effectiveness, and capability. This is accomplished through Information Technology (IT) and GIS-RS support of administrative and management infrastructure; the production of planning tools for land management and permitting; and the direct consultation of GIS, RS, and GPS support services to scientists. Toolik GIS provides a rich spatial geodatabase, project-specific data development, spatial analyses, consultation, and documentation. These services are available at the station during the summer field season and through the Toolik GIS office at UAF year round.

MEF
The Toolik Maintenance, Equipment Support, and Fabrication (MEF) Team handles preventative maintenance and routine upkeep of the field station facilities, water, waste water, fuel oil, propane, heat, vehicles and transporters, shower facilities and equipment.
Additionally, MEF personnel provide science support to users of Toolik Field Station. This includes advice during planning, assistance with setting up experiments, design and fabrication, Reverse Osmosis and DI water, and operational training. Other services provided to facilitate science support include: vehicle access such as snowmobiles, bicycles, canoes, boats and motors, small gasoline generators, ice and ground augers, power and hand tools, ladders, small quantities of lumber, hardware, PVC, metal stock, plexiglass, and a chest freezer for temporary storage.Joe Franich
