BIO

Elizabeth "Liz" Dobbins leads the Data Analysis and Collection team at ACEP.

Dobbins earned her bachelor’s degree in physics from Eastern Washington University, Cheney, WA and a master’s degree in physical oceanography from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA.

Dobbins has more than 30 years of experience working with oceanographic data in both academia and the private sector. She has collected data at sea, processed sensor data, mapped assets, utilized numerical models and used open source Python tools to ingest data into a public-facing portal. In addition, she has supported interdisciplinary scientific endeavors in wildly disparate ways — from Unix system administration and web development to managing aspects of the Northern Gulf of Alaska Long Term Ecological Research project at UAF.

Since 2009, Dobbins has lived with her family in Fairbanks, AK, where she enjoys gardening in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter. She is a passionate advocate for the philosophy of reproducible research and the open-source software that supports it. In 2020, she became a certified Carpentries instructor in order to spread best practices regarding scientific computing.
