Collaborative Data Analyst Isabella Chittumuri Brings Drive to ACEP

Isabella Chittumuri has joined ACEP’s staff as a data analyst. As part of the data collection and management team, she is working on data processing and statistical analysis for the Alaska Fuel Cost Survey, a project led by ACEP’s Dominique Pride to collect data on home heating fuel use for Fairbanks, Alaska. Chittumuri joins a team of ACEP data analysts handling data which is clocking in at 6.4 million rows so far! She is also working on the Kotzebue meter project, documenting data collection and storage systems deployed with our partner organizations.
Since completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in applied mathematics and statistics from CUNY Hunter College in New York, Chittumuri has garnered considerable experience with processing and analyzing data. She interned with NASA’s DEVELOP program, which conducts feasibility studies that bridge the gap between Earth science information and human societies. She led a project that evaluated the impacts of Hurricane Irma on property owners in Georgia. She also worked on a project that evaluated snow variability in a climatological context in Northeast Alaska to help refuge managers track changes in snow conditions.
Most recently she interned with the Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks. As part of her internship she analyzed the functioning of air-source heat pumps for cold climates and conducted fieldwork documenting data on housing issues resulting from permafrost thaw in rural Alaska.
Her background demonstrates that she thrives while undertaking work that is meaningful to society. Chittumuri noted she finds ACEP’s projects “very interesting and impactful.”
Vanessa Raymond, who heads ACEP’s data collection and management team, praises Chittumuri for her collaborative nature, curiosity, tenacity, and drive to solve problems.
“Isabella brings great energy to the data team. She asks great questions and has the drive to tackle some gnarly challenges,” she said.
Chittumuri enjoys not only her work but also the work-life balance within ACEP. While math and coding tickle her brain and excite her, she is also athletic and artistic. She finds pleasure in hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, swimming, ice skating, as well as yoga, piano and drawing.
Chittumuri is working full-time at ACEP until fall when she will start her Ph.D. studies in applied mathematics and statistics at Colorado School of Mines.
