Mikayla Mitchell joined ACEP in the fall as a grant manager. She works alongside Lesli Walls, a long-time grant manager at ACEP. Mitchell’s responsibility focuses on work with principal investigators and researchers on post-award processes.
Mitchell brings vast experience from working for Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. During her 23 years there, Mitchell worked at all levels of supply chain services, including buyer, data analyst, surgery technician, and most recently as the associate manager for the past six years.
Supply chain management plays a crucial role in an organization as its effectiveness can affect different facets of its operation — effective supply chain management can help streamline an organization’s activities to eliminate waste, maximize customer value and gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
While successful at her work at the hospital, Mitchell had a desire to expand her knowledge in a different field. Meeting Walls, ACEP’s executive officer Jennifer Harris and project manager Christie Haupert convinced her that working at ACEP would be a great opportunity for growth and new adventures.
Harris expressed her excitement about Mitchell joining the ACEP team. “[Mitchell’s] experience with healthcare professionals and hospital administration will translate well to the university community and supporting ACEP researchers,” she said.
Born and raised in Fairbanks, Mitchell knows how to make the best of what Alaska has to offer. While keeping busy at work and with two teenagers at home, Mitchell finds time to hike, camp, kayak, jet ski and spend time with friends and family. She also enjoys travelling, including her memorable trip snorkeling with manta rays in Kona, Hawai‘i. She loves good food and coffee.
