Register Now for the 2022/23 Solar Decathlon

UAF students interested in design, engineering, building science, sustainability or livability are encouraged to register for the 2022-2023 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathalon. Team meetings and classes start in late September, and students are encouraged to register now by completing this form.

The Solar Decathlon is an annual event sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. The event invites teams representing universities from around the world to compete across 10 competitive categories to design the “best” home that generates at least as much energy from renewable resources as it uses. Any student interested in studying and creating the spaces where people live is encouraged to register.

UAF students can earn up to five academic credits over two semesters for participating in the competition and completing the associated coursework. Students will spend the fall semester choosing the type of structure to design and learning key building design concepts. During the spring semester, they will design the home, create a digital model, build a physical 3D model, describe the cultural significance of the design and complete energy system modeling.
