New student orientation

Requirement

All new students are strongly encouraged to attend New Student Orientation. It is REQUIRED for:

  • First-time, baccalaureate degree-seeking students
  • International students (Undergraduate F-1 Status and International Exchange in J-1 Status)

Registration

If you fall into one of the two requirement categories, you do not need to register.

We also have a few different options for family members and friends, veterans, and transfer students. Check back soon to register for these different options.

Fees

  • A $115 fall NSO fee will be applied directly to students' accounts, which is settled during regular UAF fee payment at the start of the fall semester.
  • A $35 spring NSO fee will be applied directly to students' accounts, which is settled during regular UAF fee payment at the start of the spring semester.

Orientation schedules

New Student Orientation for fall 2020 at UAF will be fully available online, while also offering some events in-person with specific guidelines regarding room capacity and maintaining safe, social distancing protocols.

We are finalizing the exact details of the New Student Orientation schedule, but here are a few highlights we can share:

  • Fully online, with some events in-person
  • Students will connect with a cohort of students led by an Orientation Leader to welcome them to campus and help transition into Nanook Nation.
  • We will conduct campus tours with some social distancing and capacity guidelines
  • Students will hear from numerous campus partners that offer a wide range of resources to help you succeed during your time at UAF
  • Extended Orientation programming will continue for the first 6 weeks of the semester.
  • We’ll make sure you know how to find your classes, where to eat, how to get books, and all the other little items that will help you succeed
