2020 Annual Accounting Awards

On April 28, student organization the Great Alaskan Accounting People (GAAP) hosted the annual Accounting Awards.

While this is usually a lunchtime event held at the Raven Landing Community Center, this year it was moved to an online format like so many other events. The accounting community was well represented, and the 38 attendees included SOM faculty, students, and accounting professionals.

Despite not being able to meet in person, this was a great opportunity to recognize the many outstanding accounting students at the School of Management. The event was emceed by accounting instructor Amy Cooper, and also featured accounting program director Dr. Charlie Sparks, GAAP president Paige Best, and GAAP advisor Rebecca Strickland. The program began with a brief tribute to Tom Bartlett, a longtime SOM instructor and strong supporter of the accounting program, who passed away earlier this year.

This year, ten scholarships were presented to students by accounting professionals and SOM faculty. A number of accounting awards and GAAP-specific awards were presented to students and faculty who showed outstanding efforts over the past year. Thank you to BDO for onceagain generously sponsoring this event.Congratulations to all the scholarship and award recipients – and to all our accounting students for another successful year!
